But an accident that would be, because the hotel under construction on South Howard Avenue is far more than just a hotel across the street from the legendary Bern's Steak House.So, as a service to you the reader, let me take a second to untangle this foodie family tree -- and let me stretch the family metaphor a bit.One parent (would it be the "Mother"? That's up to you.) is the Bern's Steak House Inc., and the Laxer family that built their restaurant on Howard Avenue into a destination known around the world. Long, long ago, the family looked at land across the street. David Laxer envisioned a hotel named the "Epicurean," and Bern's paid bazillions to start construction on a lovely parking garage there, which proceeded right up until the real estate bubble burst with a "Pop!" And there the garage sat for a few years.Then, much more recently, along came the other parent (would it be the "Father"? That's up to you.) in the form of Joe Collier, the Tampa-based developer of hotel properties. Laxer, Collier and other Tampa business honchos spearheaded a drive to resurrect the hotel dream, and they formulated a new plan.Collier is president of Mainsail Lodging & Development that runs several long-term stay and apartment complexes around Florida and is a franchisee of Marriott, which recently built a resort on Scrub Island. Marriott has a substring of hotels under the "Autograph Collection" brand that look and feel like independent boutique hotels, but operate with all the benefits of a megahotel chain. That link led to the Epicurean becoming an "Autograph" site.A slew of financial investors have jumped into the project, including the Laxers, Carl and Lyda Lindell, Bud Risser, Clint and Krista Maddox, Tyson Lykes, Rob and Sadie Pariseau, Brian Check and Dennis Slater.Mainsail is driving the Epicurean bus in terms of a string of things. They'll hire and run the staff, hotel operations, restaurant, spa, rooftop bar, "Culinary Classroom," and meeting and event space. A slew of other players have come in the mix: general contractor (Beck), architects (Urban Studio), interior design firm (Gettys), project management (Check Development) and financing (Synovus Bank).So, you ask, "What will Bern's run?"Bern's will lease and run the on-site pastry shop, wine shop, and have a "consulting" role with all restaurant and beverage service, and at some point the Bern's Fine Wine & Spirits store will move down the street into the Epicurean lobby. Bern's will also expand the annual WineFest with events at the Epicurean. And I can tell you from recent visits to the restaurant that the servers on site happily tell guests all about the hotel -- if prompted.A few of the particulars between the two parents of the Epicurean are still evolving, and on Monday the hotel will reveal names for the restaurant, bakery, spa and other spots.For hotel guests, this arrangement brings perks. For one, the expectations for the food will be pretty high, and expect some nice arrangements between the hotel and the restaurant for deals, perhaps, though luxury brands tend to be allergic to anything smacking of "discount." Secondly, guests of the hotel will benefit from the Marriott reservation system and can earn and use Marriott Reward points -- something you wouldn't expect from a hotel run by a steak house. The hotel should open in mid-December, with a grand opening in January, but until then, here's some other retail, restaurant and trend news around town:Mmmmm ... BHN will offer live and On Demand streaming video of Florida high school games, including a slew of finals games -- where the video is available on iPhones, iPads and many Android devices. There's no extra charge for BHN subscribers, and the video works outside the home, too. Games include 60 regular season and 70 state finals games during the 2013-14 school year. Forty of them will be football, with another 20 games of volleyball, basketball and baseball.More TV networks comingMeanwhile, streaming TV shows on Amazon/Netflix/Hulu/Roku, etc., may be super cool, but there are also a slew of neat new "Networks" starting up too on actual cable TV channels. Also on deck soon: A new music-oriented TV channel from Sean Combs called "Revolt," and the gritty blood flick auteur Robert Rodriguez is backing a new channel called "El Ray." Not all channels are available everywhere, so check their sites for local listings. Outpost Tap House opensAfter several months in renovation, the Outpost Tap House + Tavern opened at 909 W. Kennedy Blvd. That's the site of the former Frankie's hot dog joint. The owners and the address are the same, but everything else is different. Where Frankie's had hot dogs, the Outpost has Prince Edward Island Oysters and gourmet burgers, and where Frankie's had a few beers, the Outpost has 40-plus beers on tap, including Goose Island Honkers and Stone Arrogant Bastard with an alcohol percentage of 7.2. There are also huge new TVs everywhere you look, and the bar is vastly expanded. 　　今年6月底，新蒲崗迷你倉重慶商人張先生，將3000萬資金轉入自己在山東濟寧工商銀行的戶名之下，只為幫助朋友完成年中的攬儲任務。約定的7天期滿之後，張先生拿回自己的存款。但是，上月17日，卻意外發現，從未離開自己控制的全部6500萬資金，已被山東省菏澤市巨野縣公安局凍結。　　一番周折之後，張先生前往巨野縣瞭解情況。巨野縣警方給出凍結賬戶的理由是，涉嫌金融詐騙。這讓張先生及家人，摸不著頭腦。在自己的賬戶內流轉的資金，怎麼就捲入詐騙犯罪了呢？　　在重慶商人張先生看來，事情的經過非常簡單。　　張先生：我受一個朋友的邀請，他在幫銀行拉一筆存款，通過朋友來跟我說叫我幫幫他，我就答應了去幫他，開完了戶以後，我們把錢轉賬轉到那個戶頭上，然後按照合約存滿七天，轉回重慶的賬戶，就是這麼回事。　　不過，事情的後果，卻莫名其妙地複雜起來。　　張先生：7月17日，我叫我老婆轉賬出來，轉賬本來要答應付一筆人家的錢，結果一轉發現轉不了，就不對嘛，就給銀行打電話，說被公安局凍結了。　　據張先生稱，銀行方面表示，對其所有的6500萬資金實施凍結的，是山東巨野縣公安局。昨晚，記者就此事向巨野縣公安局負責偵辦此案的民警李少強求證，但李警官的回答非常簡單。　　李少強：你無權過問，我也無可奉告！再見。　　張先生說，公安局給出的凍結理由是：這筆3000萬的存款，與一起金融詐騙案有關。　　張先生：我們過去之後就問，為什麼凍結我們的錢？他說，你這個錢，與一起詐騙案有關係。他說我們這裡有人被詐騙了錢，幾百萬。我就問我們的錢怎麼就跟詐騙案有關？他們就沒有具體地說了。　　在張先生提供的一份存款協議書中，有這樣的表述：甲方張先生與乙方，就引資存款事宜達成協議，甲方安排3000萬資金，存入乙方指定的山東濟寧工商銀行東城支行的甲方名下賬戶，存款期限為6月20日至26日，共7天，乙方在此事完結之後，給予甲方利息、利息損失以及差旅等費用共兩萬元。　　而這一份協議的內容，也得到了工商銀行濟寧市東城支行行長高進善的證實。　　高進善：我就是要他來做個存款，他說沒問題，但過幾天錢就走了。一看錢被劃走了，接著巨野公安就說是這個錢涉嫌詐騙，就有問題了。但具體的他們也不跟我們講。　　說到此處，或許您有點不太明白，事情有點複雜。不過，張先生本人對此事的理解，有一個比方。　　張先生：A先生有一輛非常高檔的奔馳轎車，價值兩百萬，B先生是個騙子，有個C先生呢想貪便宜，買個便宜的奔馳車，騙子就跟C先生說，我可以幫你買一輛奔馳只要五十萬，C先生一聽，好啊，五十萬你幫我買吧，然後B先生就通過人給A先生打電話，你到某某酒店來接一個人吧，A先生就來了吧，然後B先生就跟C先生說，你看我的車已經來了，你先給我20萬定金吧，這個C先生馬上就把錢給了騙子了，騙子拿了錢跑了，詐騙啊，公安局不問青紅皂白就把A先生的出租車扣掉了，後來查清楚這個A先生是被騙來的，然後就跟A先生說，你的奔馳車我們還是要扣走，你把被騙的錢拿回來，我們就給你解凍。　　經mini storage一番調查之後，巨野縣公安局方面也確實初步查明，張先生與此案無關，而這3000萬資金，與此案也沒有直接關聯。　　負責偵辦此案的另一位巨野縣公安局民警張新塗：現在這個階段來說基本上可以確定他對這個情況不太瞭解，他對嫌疑人犯罪的意圖可能不太清楚，至於那個資金應該是和案件有關係，但不是直接用于犯罪的。　　記者：那可不可以這麼理解，他的這個錢只是一個工具？　　張警官：嗯，可以這樣認為，被嫌疑人利用的道具。　　目前，張先生的全部6500萬資金，依然處於被凍結狀態，無法正常使用。既然巨野縣公安局已經排除張先生與此案的牽連，並且也已經查明，凍結的6500萬，與此案沒有直接關係，那麼，警方為何仍不予解凍這筆資金呢？　　根據《刑事訴訟法》中的相關規定：公安機關根據偵查犯罪的需要，可以凍結犯罪嫌疑人的存款、匯款。對於凍結的存款、匯款，經查明確實與案件無關的，應當在三日以內解除凍結，予以退還。　　而巨野縣公安局方面也表示，最近正在考慮為張先生的資金解凍。　　公安局民警張新塗：現在不能完全界定它是涉案資金嘛，它畢竟不是嫌疑人直接用來作案的資金，它是間接發生關係的，所以說我們也可以給他解凍。　　至於排除嫌疑多日，為何遲遲不予解凍，張新塗說，何時解凍，法律賦予公安機關一定的自由裁量權。　　張新塗：因為有一些是法律規定不太嚴密的地方，不太好界定。　　記者：就是現在按照法律規定的話，也可以解凍也可以不解凍？　　張新塗：也可以，也可以等案子全部查清以後。　　記者：就是這一塊法律規定上給了警方相對較大的自由裁量權？　　張新塗：嗯，警方有這個自由裁量權，有些事情要從全面的衡量這個事情，才能有一個基本的判斷，我不能就是說嫌疑人只要已到案，所有的事情都明白，這也不見得。　　而張先生則表示，警方早在上月底，就通知他可以為其部分資金解凍，但前提是——經手此事的所有人，退還所收全部中介費。　　張先生：7月30日給我打的電話，一個叫李少強的警官給我打的電話。就是要我去給那些中介做工作，把他們收的中介費還回去，就可以給我解凍，隨時還，他們第二天就可以解凍。　　對此，張新塗警官表示，雙方立場不同，看待這筆資金的性質就不一樣。　　張新塗：可能這是認識上的差別造成的，站在我們公安辦案的角度，我們就是為受害人挽回損失。因為他得到的那個所謂的中間的正常收益，確實是我們已經查明的受害人損失的那一塊，所以說我們向他進行追繳這也是正常的。我們也可以採取這種方式和他協商。　　對於此案中雙方所產生的分歧，中國政法大學刑事司法學院教授洪道德認為，按照刑事訴訟法規定，這筆資金，應該解除凍結，予以退還。　　洪道德：根本沒有自由裁量權，刑訴法講的非常清楚，查明與案件無關的，應當3日內返還或解除。現在這個錢，已經證明不是犯罪人的合法財產，是別人的，而那個合法擁有這筆財產的人，又沒有參與這起犯罪，那就得解凍返還。　　相關事件進展，中國之聲將持續關注。(記者肖源 實習記者趙慧穎)標簽：張新塗 解凍 巨野縣 打電話 李少強self storage

Though he said he is still reading and studying the new law, he hasn't seen where it clearly allows parents to pick up their children at elementary or middle schools while carrying a concealed weapon."It needs to be clarified, because if it's not there, there's some people who are going to be in trouble," Hinshaw said. "If it is there, I'd like to see it written plainer ... I don't want to see an innocent person get in trouble."He said it's a common question among people taking CHP classes at Handgunners, and many people have asked what the new 迷你倉沙田aw will allow them to do concerning carrying concealed firearms while picking up their children and grandchildren at school."We've been trying to address that and we're coming up zero," Hinshaw said. Source: Journal Star, Peoria, Ill.迷你倉Aug. 10--PEORIA -- Ongoing budget issues at the federal level could spell big problems for indigent defendants in the federal criminal system, said the chief federal public defender on Friday.Jonathan Hawley's 10 attorneys handle the majority of cases at the federal courthouses in Peoria, Springfield, Urbana and Rock Island, but that could change if Congress doesn't restore some of money lost this year when the sequester kicked in."And ironically, this comes on the 50th anniversary of Gideon vs. Wainwright," he said, referring to the landmark 1963 Supreme Court case that solidified a person's Sixth Amendment right to counsel.The cuts are the result of the failure of a deficit "super committee" to reach an agreement. The original idea was that the threat of the sequestration would drive Democrats and Republicans to strike a budget bargain. Instead, it caused hundreds across the country to either lose their jobs or to take unpaid furlough days.Hawley's office has let two attorneys and one computer information specialist go. If the cuts are as bad as Hawley thinks they will be next in the coming budget, another three to five positions could be lost. As such, "panel" attorneys -- private attorneys within the community who are appointed to represent a client -- could take on more cases.And what frustrates Hawley, who now runs his office's website and attempts to文件倉tackle computer issues, is that sequestration is actually costing the taxpayers more."We can just do it cheaper," he said, noting that, on average, the defense for a person in federal court is about $3,080 when represented by his staff, as opposed to $4,396 when represented by a panel attorney.He doesn't mean to disparage panel lawyers, saying they are skilled and the system depends upon them, but his attorneys specialize in federal practice and are already at the courthouse every day.He also noted that not long ago, private attorneys did most of the work in the federal system. But over the years, it was believed that having a full-time federal defender system in place worked better and cheaper.So far, his office is making do. It hasn't turned away clients in droves, nor has it stopped helping panel attorneys, a part of its mission as federal defenders. That, however, could change.When asked if his office is just like others, being forced to make do with less, Hawley paused, reflected and then said no."Our clients have to be represented. 【記者許志煌/台北報導】行政院研考會昨(九)日表示，存倉iTaiwan無線上網服務自今年五月二十一日開放境外旅客免費使用後，近二個月已有超過五萬個境外旅客申請。境外旅客更是以好康相報的方式，整團來台申請iTaiwan無線上網服務，最高紀錄還曾有當日高達一千五百名旅客申請。另，iTaiwan無線上網服務自一百年十月七日啟動以來，不到二年期間累計使用人次已於今年七月底突破二千三百萬人次，超過全國二千三百萬總人口數。行政院研考會指出，今年六月間接獲香港某中學副校長來信，表示將率師生來臺進行文化藝術之旅，盼能申請使用iTaiwan無線上網服務。這項需求隨即在交通部觀光局的協助下迅速完成帳號申請作業，iTaiwan大幅提升該校師生旅途中的便利性，該校副校長返國後，更專程來信致謝。依據行政院研考會統計資料顯示，全國使用人次累積最多的iTaiwan熱點，是國防部三軍總醫院，每月高達二萬人次使用。民眾入院就診、探病及批藥等自存倉時，可使用無線上網服務結合「三總便民幫手」行動應用App的網路掛號及看診進度查詢等功能，節省病人等候看診的時間。而使用人次次多的iTaiwan熱點則是交通部台鐵桃園站等大眾運輸節點，至於文教館所，如教育部國家圖書館也是常列熱門熱點。另iTaiwan熱點遍布全國，亦有區域均衡效果，全國最東邊、最西邊熱點分別為交通部蘭嶼郵局、金門烈嶼郵局，服務到離島；全國最南邊熱點則是內政部墾丁鵝鑾鼻公園，最北邊熱點為交通部馬祖東引遊客中心，觀光旅遊景點不可少；至全國最高海拔熱點則為農委會東勢林區管理處合歡山松雪樓，標高三千一百五十公尺。適值暑假旅遊旺季，民眾出門在外想打卡拍照分享、查詢天氣路況、美食或旅遊資訊，卻擔心沒有申辦行動上網或3G品質不穩。政院研考會建議民眾可善用廣布於全國各地機場、高速公路休息站、火車站、郵局及各地旅遊景點之i-Taiwan無線上網服務，並搭配使用旅遊App查詢，相信可幫助民眾解決出外旅遊之大小事。迷你倉新蒲崗

Source: New Haven Register, Conn.迷你倉新蒲崗Aug. 09--OLD LYME -- A Wolcott man was charged Thursday with impersonating a police officer, including possessing a badge and commandeering a boat, according to Connecticut State Police.State police received a phone call from a resident in the Point O Woods Beach community, stating there was a white male in military-type clothing walking on Sea View Drive with a gun.The caller also told state police that she had seen the same male earlier that day, driving what she described as a "police-type vehicle." State police later identified the vehicle parked at a Sea View Drive residence as a 2004 blue Crown Victoria, which they said was equipped with what looked like a disc and several antennas mounted on the trunk and "hide-away" lights.After police spoke with several occupants of the residence at which the car was parked, Bruce W. Browne, 46, identified himself as the owner, state police said. According to WFSB, Browne is the brother of former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, but apparently spells his name differently.Wolcott Chief Edward Stephens confirmed Browne is the Massachusetts Republican politician's brother. He could not explain why their last names are spelled differently, according to the Associated Press. A call to Scott Brown was not immediately returned and a listing for Bruce Browne went unanswered, the AP said.When questioned by Connecticut State Police, Browne was wearing blue battle dress uniform-type pants and admitted to walking on Sea View Drive earlier that day wearing a black nylon gun belt, police said. He had asked the occupants of each vessel for registration and boater safety certificates, police said. Browne told state police he had carried with him an expired Coast Guard identification card, which belonged to him when he was a reserve member of the Coast Guard.State police contacted TSA and U.S. Coast Guard officials, both of whom searched records and said Browne was not affiliated with either agency.
