停用深圳康泰公司重組乙肝疫苗

本報訊(記者羅京 通訊員郝金奇)昨日,mini storage年深加工畜禽產品5萬噸的武漢飄飄食品集團有限公司肉食品深加工基地,在東西湖區走馬嶺食品工業園區建成投產。加工基地占地面積48000平方米,總投資1.5億元,每年可實現5萬噸禽畜產品深加工,並實現年銷售收入10億元,年創利稅8000萬元,並吸納1000余人就業。據瞭解,武漢飄飄食品集團有限公司,是一家在北京起源創業,在東西湖發展壯大的公司。目前,該self storage司擁有飄飄、楚街坊、千湖鴨三個品牌,中式醬鹵、西式火腿灌腸、醃臘製品、罐頭製品、蛋製品、禽血製品等六大系列200多個品種。企業負責人介紹,投產的禽肉製品深加工基地,引進了先進的進口設備,採用全冷鏈加工工藝和運輸控制,是目前我省行業內標準化程度最高的基地之一。目前,東西湖區已擁有周黑鴨、絕味鴨脖等過億元的農產品加工龍頭企業28家,農產品加工業年產值過300億元,占全區工業產值的半壁江山。迷你倉

所有節日,迷你倉樂器都是讓人們聚首的好藉口,而在寒風四起的聖誕節,我們不需要高級餐廳那張四四正正、又大又闊的餐�,拘謹堂皇的氣氛,還有比平日差不多貴一倍的聖誕套餐,分隔久久不見的你我他。玲瓏得有點擠逼的溫暖小店,選擇不多卻精心準備的歐美小菜,令人醉意上湧的各國酒精,有點粗糙卻像被朋友招待的熱情服務,讓老闆及廚師的心血,燃點整晚的歡笑派對。每間小店,都傳出興奮熱鬧的笑聲。 暖心.小館【佳節�,飄來海洋的音韻】 本地有些法式小館傾盡全力展示地道法國風味,食材酒水,巴不得連空氣都從法國運來,可是這家新鮮出爐的小館Le Port Parfumé卻彈出不同風格,在法式民謠中演奏出香港情歌,寧靜九如坊小區中,飄�美味的音符。 這間可坐四十人的小店,就像一本翻譯得恰到好處的法國小品文章,每句每段都在法國韻律內,潛藏�深邃美麗的香港大海。晚上客滿,人蠻擠的,幸好樓底高,不侷促。裝修佈置大有心思,連最奄尖的人都找不到瑕疵,從越南購入的灰綠古舊地磚,帶�昔年宗主國的法國影子,其他角落貫徹店名所指的海港意象。最多的,就是船。有放在牆壁架上當眼處,風帆微微變黃的帆船,有門口旁的鮮紅賽艇,有放在店角落,不說也不知道原來用作釣魷魚墨魚的漁船。還有掛在衣架上的藍白海員制服,天花板上的船燈,油漆有點剝落的舊木製滑浪板,放在高處、彷彿隨海流來到店內的大大小小飄流瓶。雖然身處中環鬧市斜坡上,卻在不知不覺中,吹來屬於海洋的鹽味。 是香港也是法國 不過要只是這樣,小店也只是屬於遙遠的法國,這可違反了老闆Randy的心意。「Bistro的裝修環境,固然重要,但食材也該因地制宜。在法國,Bistro會採用當地或者鄰近地區出產的食材,靠海吃海。不會每家都千篇一律賣田螺兔仔。」Randy一臉認真地解釋。在他心目中,一間香港的Bistro,就像是牆壁上那幾幅1973年的法國舊雜誌黑白照片,當法國總統龐比度首次跟中國總統周恩來見面的歷史時刻,轉化成餐廳風格,就是以法式烹調,融合本港一千六百平方公里水域內的鮮活海洋。 每天十時多,鴨�洲相熟漁民會送來最新上水的野生海鮮,大廚根據抓到的魚蝦蜆八爪魚之類來設計菜式,侍應馬上寫在黑板上及定價。所以除了兩三道菜如牛扒羊肉固定供應,黑板上的六七款海鮮菜式分量價錢都天天不同,誰也不知道當天賣甚麼。別以為這店所說野生海鮮只是隨便說,她是來真的。從未見過香港有西餐會賣殼脆肉甜的赤米蝦,加入自家調製的香草醬,是中西合璧的濃香,還放在鐵鑊內上�,吃到最後一隻都熱辣辣,跟中式白灼比較,是另一種香味。還有買少見少的本地青龍蝦,個頭不大卻是肉爽鮮甜得可喜,放在龍蝦肉身的香草沙律帶點薄荷等香草的清新,進一步提升鮮味。最值得一讚的是燒魚,對香港人來說,西餐不論是燒煎焗烤魚,絕大部分都是味如嚼柴的乾涸,小店卻以西班牙Josper炭烤爐加韓國炭來燒烤,天天把不同的野生紅鯛、「哨牙衣」放在這個爐內,被明火先烤後焗,上�時會撕走黑炭似的魚皮,只吃幼滑雪白的魚肉,鮮甜多汁,魚肚內還塞入茴香、檸檬,吃來帶點淡淡清新。 天天不同的海鮮 當然,老闆也不是高叫香港海鮮萬歲的死硬派,像帶子就用肉厚鮮甜的北海道來貨,青口亦是肥嫩鮮甜的法國藍青口,因香港本土沒有更佳選擇。菜式以突出原味為主,簡單不花巧,就算是非主打的羊肉牛扒,亦做得肉質腍滑,火候剛好。Bistro怎可缺了酒?這店沒供應花臣多多的雞尾酒,大多是布根地、法國南部的葡萄酒,偏重酒香複雜濃郁的選擇,也有來自法國各地的茴香酒,還有日本、蘇格蘭等地的極罕酒廠或年份的威士忌及西班牙�酒及俄羅斯伏特加,全是濃烈帶勁的好酒,普天同慶的日子,不乾個夠本,就太浪費了。 Goldstein's Comfort,就是新朋友的家了。 不是騙你,這兒真的不像中環西餐廳,反而像家咖啡館。可坐六十人的店內,全是深淺不同的木頭做餐�、地板、牆壁,窗旁還放了大量盆栽植物,午後陽光透入餐廳,像置身悠閒的咖啡店。入夜後又是另一番景象,身穿紫藍黃紅等六種顏色,寫上關於店內各道招牌菜的短袖T Shirt的男女侍應,在節奏強勁的音樂下活力十足地跑來跑去,招呼客人。難以想像,這是Harlan Goldstein新開的店子。只要是懂吃愛喝一族,都知道他曾為眾多富豪名流掌廚,也遊遍美歐北京泰國的星級酒店廚房,在香港開過多間高級餐廳,白松露、意大利Emila Romania火腿等各地精英食材都見慣見熟。但這位名廚下班回家,還是愛吃家常菜,賣相也許平凡,然而吃下去,卻有�擊中心底回憶的味道,能將整天累積的倦怠變成元氣。所以今次開店,他暫時褪下身上金光,在新店中跟大家分享他愛吃也常吃的家常菜(Comfort Food)。 簡單而隆重 要是用港人風格去形容這餐廳,就是一間專屬大廚的茶餐廳,兩版餐牌加上天天不同的是日推薦菜式,近五十款選擇。開胃頭盤小碟中既有澳洲和牛製作風乾牛肉,加入芝士核桃還有蜜糖拌勻,鹹香油軟夾雜香脆甜美,來自他在意大利米蘭學藝時的食譜。同時又有甜中帶點微辣的肥美雞翼,雖然$88才四隻有點少,但隻隻肥美滋味,是大廚改良自太平館瑞士雞翼的口味。 冬天想來點熱騰騰的頭盤開胃?有取材自大廚台灣太太的兩款刈包,長形白饅頭夾�入口即化的荷蘭豬腩肉,自家改良的醬料卻帶有潮州辣椒醬的酸香辣意,另一款是加入美國新奧爾良印第安醬的香脆軟殼蟹,香辣惹味。還有充滿地中海色彩的兩款半圓形口袋薄餅,餡料卻不是鷹嘴豆泥,反而改為一款西班牙火腿加Manchego芝士,一款羊奶芝士加風乾黑橄欖,鬆軟開胃。 主菜亦繼續無法分類的雜亂風格,有意大利麵,也有簡單的烤美國牛扒、澳洲走地雞。亦有四道標明家常菜的口味,做法簡單卻是恰到好處的美妙,慢煮得入口即化的牛面頰,濃郁肉味令渾身都暖和起來;大廚愛得要命的英式豬肉香腸配薯蓉,咬下香腸聽到清脆的撕裂聲,肉汁豐盛,加入煙肉雜菜的薯蓉不是太幼滑,卻啖啖鹹香;意想不到的是咖喱牛腩,腍滑牛腩滿是咖喱辣香,還帶點清新的香茅檸檬香,不比其他咖喱專門店失色。 大廚的味道 食物不拘一格,也反映大廚多姿多采的人生。看看這兒的餐牌就知道,不少菜式下都寫上一行小字,講解它跟大廚的淵源。所以我們會知道大廚最愛的菜式是松露牛肉他他,明白他在1985年時,學懂如何做一道蟹肉三文魚扒,也瞭解原來那咖喱牛腩,是來自他太座假日的拿手好菜,更想通為甚麼這兒會有新加坡黑椒炒整隻波士頓龍蝦,全因他在新加坡時當廚時,有位Uncle Raymond教他如何烹調。就只有在這種小館,才看到人性化的一面吧。不過話又說回來,人人心中的家常菜都不同,為甚麼不回家吃而走到這店?原因就是大廚的名頭,大部分菜式都以家常菜為基礎,再經過他改良,像那咖喱牛腩在他家中現身時,就不經慢煮步驟(誰會在家慢煮呀?!)也沒有那檸檬清新,在家吃飯也不可能用西班牙豬及最高級的5J火腿來做肉丸吧?更別提這店用的全是荷蘭豬腩肉、澳洲和牛等貴價食材,令上門客人享受美化後的味覺回憶。「所有我喜歡的菜式,都會放進餐牌,唯一例外應該是香港小食,放碗雲吞麵在這兒就不太對勁吧。」邊說邊打個冷震的大廚大笑。其實客人又那會在意這些?尤其是熟客,人人來到大聲講大聲笑,跟大廚聊幾句,話題不離他瘦了一圈的地獄式減肥心得。整間餐廳就像他的家,客人就像是被邀請來參加派對的朋友。就算第一次來,在輕鬆熱鬧的氛圍下,也讓人放下拘謹,不用擔心消費高(平均百多二百元一客菜式),也不用想甚麼頭盤配甚麼主菜,亂點一通,就是雞翼配牛扒,也沒人會取笑,在家吃,隨意才盡興。 要離開色彩單調的香港,不一定要買機票。只要在想像力種子上灑點水,給點陽光,當種子盡情生長時,在上月開業的Plat Du Jour(法語:是日特價)內,還是能嘗到巴黎那永不停止的饗宴味道。 這間可坐五十多人的小店,不論站在門口還是步進店內,都如走入地道法國小酒館中,一窗一燈都是印象中的巴黎風味。灰中帶點淺綠的牆身+散發昏黃燈光的小壁燈=踏進異鄉的門戶。落地玻璃窗後的純白窗簾---城中其他法國餐館的高價=隔離香港街頭的煩躁,回歸傳統小酒館的平民價錢。走在木地板上的迴響腳步聲×正在等候疲憊身軀坐下的彎曲老舊木椅×被�上燭台映照出如花光影的美國進口玻璃水杯=一晚舒適的開始。還有更多點滴,像那醉紅色的長形馬蹄梳化;如被燈光照�,寫�當天推薦菜式的黑板;似那放在一角,插在花瓶的一束小黃花;如天花板的細碎雕塑,以及特意訂做的餐具,一起構成黃金時代的小酒館風味。 要是暴躁的海明威在此,應該會覺得太刻意營造,缺了地道小館的溫馨,不過誰叫餐廳背後是太古集團,財雄勢大,講究所有細節,連員工制服都是特別訂做,型格爽朗,將真假新舊的小酒館元素融合得剛好。 午夜巴黎味道 在小店吃的菜式,也是彼岸小館的地道,沒有魔幻藝術家達利式的腦筋急轉彎瘋狂,反而是平易近人不花巧。單看由澳洲名廚David Laris設計的餐牌,其實沒多少選擇,主打套餐,可從廿多款頭盤主菜甜品中挑選,還有不時更換,每天一項的是日菜式供自選,另有生蠔、法國火腿等下酒菜可散點,熟食都是耳熟能詳的牛肉他他、白酒汁煮藍青口、焗田螺、燴牛肉等。 最重要是菜式做得紮實可口,火候恰到好處,感覺濃香溫暖,應五成熟的牛扒,端出來時永不會是七分熟;該幼滑的自家製肝醬,咬下時也是油香滿口;浸在白酒中的青口,亦是隻隻嫩滑;天天不同的甜品,是同集團的東隅酒店出品,當天就有雜莓蛋白餅,酸香跟甜脆梅花間竹地在味蕾上爆發。真的要挑剔,是地道巴黎bistro,菜式味道較濃,這兒也許迎合了本地人口味,口味較淡。反而消費真的和法式bistro那樣平民化。兩道菜$185,三道菜也不過$225,部分菜式如海鮮湯要加錢,但三百元一定能吃至捧腹。就算12月24至26日只供應聖誕節套餐,四道菜連加一也只是五百多元,在這個聖誕節就等高消費的世代,可用抵食去形容。這價錢,已包括用上大量法國食材,橄欖油、香檳醋、火腿、芝士、豬腩肉、蜜糖、芥末,就是餐前的礦泉水都是當地名牌O 店前人龍不息,店內坐得背貼背,各大社交網站Facebook、Instagram全是這店的照片,開張個多月、以小包子為主題的Little Bao,是活生生的人氣例子,晚晚都熱鬧得似開倒數派對,聖誕要狂歡盡興,沒理由不來。 這家小店,不設訂座,晚上六點才開門,不過未開門已有中外男女排隊等候。店內更不用說了,開放式廚房前的廿多個吧�座位,時刻都塞滿客人,連侍應跟客人打招呼,都得提高聲線。這還不止,節奏強勁的饒舌音樂、廚房油鑊發出的炸魚��聲、鋼鏟跟鐵板碰撞的噹噹聲、時刻打開饅頭蒸籠散發的煙霧、由不同菜式酒精組合的香氣在店四散,一個不好就是一片雜亂無章,但這店卻轉化成一種倒數派對似的活力興奮,台前幕後都是笑容滿面。也許這店本身就是以好玩為大前提,謝絕悶蛋和公式化。靈魂人物是店主兼大廚May。近三十歲的她在加拿大修讀酒店管理,熱愛煮食,回港後曾在Bo Innovation及YardBird當廚。兩店皆以前�概念聞名,激發了May勇於嘗試的潛在基因。今年中首度在港島東農墟擺檔賣小食——由台灣刈包演變而成的小包子,大受歡迎,為她打下強心針,上月正式開店。酒吧格局。裝潢滲一點老香港影子:紙皮石地磚、摺�改成的高身吧位,牆上又有多幅以香港郵箱為主題的照片,比一般酒吧有格調。 食物不多,一張餐紙上的十三款選擇已是所有,近日才加上三四款是日推薦,以下酒小食為主,寫在牆壁上,數量甚至比不上飲品及雞尾酒種類。菜式以香、辣、煎炸為主,淨食也許有點鹹,配店內的精品啤酒或雞尾酒就剛好。做法不拘一格,看似健康無味的小椰菜,這店卻撒上一把魚露、辣椒、青檸、椰糖及乾�頭再焗,端上�的小椰菜,散發出鹹鮮酸辣合一的惹味香氣,入口開胃得來又清爽,一點都不像素菜。港式小炒店常見的鹹蛋黃黃金系列,這店就用來處理走地雞,還用蜜糖及橙皮的甜味果香,令鹹香雞塊有更多味道變化。甚至用布拉腸粉來取代通粉,成果就是外層香脆鹹香,咬下去卻是軟滑腸粉的玩味「芝士通心粉」。 東方?西方? 另一招牌菜以清蒸饅頭夾肉餡料的漢堡,乍看來有點像台灣刈包(Bao Burger),May卻加入種種創意,令這中式漢堡走出另一條路。包子是自家蒸製的白饅頭,柔軟中帶�韌度,有客人點菜後,會對半切開,煎香用來夾餡料的內側,塗上鹹中帶甜的醬料後才夾餡料,大小如一個橙。餡料有四種選擇。想傳統一點的,油香肥美的慢煮豬腩肉就是首選;突然想吃魚柳包的,加入香茅沙律的魚天婦羅包就最好不過,一啖下去,柔軟、香脆、油嫩三種質感依次爆發;另外還有素食及雞肉餡料。別小看這包子,許多廚子已看好它會走紅,像賣東南亞菜的Fatty 不經雕塑的原木地板,正門旁的大木�及長木吧�,都充滿歲月的氣息,掛在白磚牆上的黑板,寫滿當天推薦的菜式,角落以城市風景為題的塗鴉,回應開放廚房內的鼎沸人聲,整間餐廳都是活力十足的生機。天花板灑下的昏黃燈光,映在細碎的店內盆栽、小花、鐵椅,令任何人用鏡頭對�這店任何一角,都漂亮得如沙龍照。餐廳旁就是專賣有機雜貨的商店,店前常見懶洋洋的金毛尋回犬睡午覺,走進店內,長木�旁是放滿本地歐亞澳美等地的有機食品用品,有些是餐廳所用的食材,像台灣麵、澳洲走地雞、本地有機豆腐,有些是外國的健康用品,如自家調配的香薰、竹纖維毛巾,偶然客人太多,也會安排坐在這邊,先逛街後吃喝,氣氛輕鬆。 吃遍五洲七洋道 細心留意,你會發現這兒從所賣的食品雜貨,到餐廳的主打菜式,都讓人有參加環遊世界旅行團的感覺,平復聖誕節被困小島的無奈。單看菜式名字,只嘗它們的味道,就有種瞬間看地球的跳躍。在門口旁巨大方�的少女客人在品味軟滑的烏龍茶冷麵,自家製的黑芝麻糯米醬汁清淡微妙,充滿日本禪意;坐在一旁的文藝情侶卻人在南美,咬下鮮酸辣香的酸橘汁醃帶子。廚房旁那幾張�上的菜式,更是聯合國部隊,這位身形高『身兆』的外國女客在肥嫩波士頓青口內,嘗到日本清酒的獨有米香;對�街景靜思的客人面前,是一客慢煮十五小時的肥嫩牛肋骨肉,肉中還帶點似有還無的七喜汽水甜味;每逢周末,大廚Justin偶然會端出一碗湯清味濃的地道越南牛肉湯河,不比其他越南牛河專門店失色,更標榜所有成分都是有機。是的,這店用上不少有機食材如豆腐、加拿大Sterling 83-year-old whose tractor broke through ice believed he was going to die
Source: Bangor Daily News, MaineDec.文件倉 20--APPLETON, Maine -- George Stevenson said that after 45 minutes trapped atop his tractor which had sunk in the pond next to his home he had accepted that he was going to die."I thought how ironic it was that I had spent a lot of my life at sea and I was going to die in four feet of water," the 83-year-old Appleton man said Thursday. Stevenson spoke from the home he built in 2003 that is located within several feet of Pieri's Pond -- a 12.5-acre man-made body of water located entirely on his land off Appleton Ridge Road.Stevenson has allowed the public to use his pond for swimming in the summer and skating in the winter. He also allows folks to cross-country ski on his land. That generosity served him well Tuesday when Tree Roth of Union and Dora Lievow of Camden came to his rescue.Stevenson said he had gone out about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to clear the boat launching ramp by his house, using the bucket on his tractor to remove snow. He was then going to drill holes in the ice to determine its thickness to see whether he could take the tractor out further on the pond to clear the snow and allow people to skate. Since he could not back up the tractor on the launch, he drove onto the ice simply to turn the machine around to go back up the ramp when the tractor began sinking.The tractor was parallel to the shore, about seven feet from land when it sank.Stevenson said he made a mistake by leaving his cellphone in his pants pocket instead of his breast pocket, where it would have been dry and could have been used. Instead it got underwater and would not work.The Appleton man said he immediately turned off the engine to prevent more water from getting into it, to reduce the damage to the machine.The bucket on the tractor had been raised, and he tried to crawl atop the machine to get in the bucket and out of the water that had covered him to his breastbone. The only two parts of the tractor above water were the roll bar and the bucket.The water temperature was about freezing but the air temperature was a bone-chilling 9 degrees, he said.Soon his clothes had frozen and he was able to only get his knees on the steering wheel and hands onto the bucket. He suffered a stroke three years ago and was still not strong enough to pull himself onto the bucket, he said.When he realized he could not get himself out, he began yelling for help.At that same time on the other side of the pond, Roth and Lievow had decided to cross-country ski on that bitterly cold day. The two women had never met Stevenson but both said they appreciated his decision years earlier to allow people to use his property for recreation.The women said the trails on the property are among their favorite places to ski in the winter. Roth said she has used the pr存倉perty for 30 years.They had just started their ski outing when Roth said she heard something that caught her attention. Lievow said she heard nothing."I couldn't tell what it was at first," Roth said. "I thought it might be a dog barking but then I realized it didn't have the right rhythm or cadence."She said she stopped and called out asking if someone needed help but got no response.Lievow said that she took Roth's dog, who was out on the hike with them, and Roth went ahead, trying to determine what she heard. Roth stopped several times and again called out but heard nothing."There wasn't a lot of reinforcement that there was someone who needed help," she said.But they were near a frozen pond and she figured someone might be in trouble.The women said it took about 10 minutes before they spotted an orange object off in the distance. As they got closer it appeared that the orange object was a cap and it appeared that someone was on top of a snowmobile or an ice shack.When they reached Stevenson, the first thing he said was to call 911, which they did.Stevenson said when the two women found him, there was great relief."I had just about given up," he said, now 45 minutes into his ordeal."They did everything proper. There was no panic on their part," he said.After calling 911, the women grabbed a nearby aluminum skiff that belonged to Stevenson and placed it between the shore and the tractor. They tried to pull him off the tractor and into the skiff but he was experiencing pain in his ribs as they tried to get him over the side of the skiff. They tried putting pillows on the edge of the skiff to cushion it but then decided to wait for emergency personnel to arrive.They also brought out blankets and a quilt from his house to cover him up. They put their hands on his face to warm him.Stevenson said that their warm hands on his face felt wonderful.The pair kept talking with him until the first emergency personnel arrived. The first was Fire Chief David Stone, they said, and they managed to pull Stevenson onto the skiff and then pulled the skiff onto the shore.Crews arrived and took him by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.Stevenson spent 20 hours in the hospital. Hayfield schools adopt social media rules
Source: Post-Bulletin, Rochester, Minn.self storageDec. 19--HAYFIELD -- Student-participants at Hayfield Community Schools now can be suspended from games or in-school activities for Tweets, Facebook postings or other online messages deemed inappropriate by school officials.The new social media guidelines adopted by Hayfield, a district of 735 students, are thought to be a relatively new response by a Minnesota school district to the expanding, turbulent social media universe. The rules were adopted last month, at the beginning of the winter sports season.While many school districts have policies against the inappropriate use of district computer systems or Internet resources, Hayfield's new rules take the issue a step further. It is now possible for students to be punished or sanctioned for inappropriate messages made on their personal Twitter or Facebook accounts."Our primary goal is to educate," said Hayfield Superintendent Ron Evjen. "Freedom of speech doesn't necessarily mean freedom from consequences. That's part of our guidelines: We're telling them that you have to be responsible for what you say and do."While the district's new rules generally have won plaudits from parents, some critics on online forums have worried the rules constitute a new incarnation of Big Brother. But district leaders say they do not intend to take an active role policing the social media sites of their students."By no means are we going on kids' Twitter feeds or looking for negative things," said Chris Pack, the district's athletic director and boys' basketball coach who played a lead role in developing the guidelines. "If something gets brought to our attention, we'll deal with it. But we're definitely not going out there and monitoring our student athletes."Pack said district officials began looking at crafting the guidelines in response to a "couple of incidents" in which students used their Facebook postings or Twitter messages to disparage their teammates, playing time or coaches.While not terrible in themselves and certainly tame in comparison with the almost-anything-goes nature of social media, the incidents, if tolerated, set a bad precedent, school officials said. A player dissatisfied with his or her playing time should address the matter with the coach, not air their grievances over social media."We obviously don't want that aired out over social media," Pack said. A round of emails sent out to area districts revealed that "no one had anything specific about student athletes." His far-flung search eventually led him to two districts, one on the East Coast, the other on the West, that had developed such rules. Since adopting the guidelines, Pack said he has heard from other other districts interested in adopting similar measures.Rochester Public Schools does not have a set of rules governing use of social media for personal purposes. But the district does seek to educate student-athletes about the implications and consequences of social media. At the beginning of every sports season, coaches convene with students and their parents to go over policies and procedures. A discussion about social media is now a component of those talks, said Mark Kuisle, Century High School's athletic director."We educate the kids," Kuisle said. "We talk about citizenship. You tweet it, you own it. We want them to talk about positive things that are happening in our school."Kuisle said talking to students about the responsible use of social media has become ever-more critical, given the evolving nature of social media."We used to think that Facebook was the big thing, but now, kids can get stuff out there instantaneously. So the thing we want them to do is slow down and think about what we're doing," he said.Pack said one challenge in developing social media rules was defining what constituted "inappropriate" use. While the guidelines address specific examples, it wasn't possible to conceive of every possible way students can run afoul of social media rules. Ultimately, such judgments will rest with a three-person panel made up of the high school principal, the coach and Pack. For a first-time violation, students face a two-game or two-week suspension, whatever is longest.Pack said some students fear the good-nature razzing and joking that kids often engage in could somehow bring them in conflict with the new measures. But Pack doesn't expect his time to be consumed as a referee of social media infractions. Most kids at Hayfield use social media responsibly, although he expects issues to arise."It's just like drinking or smoking," he said. "The kids know that they're not supposed to do it, but they do it anyway. And if there is someone who feels strongly about something, they might put out there.
