OSSAA associate director David Jackson said Oklahoma State University "has been a good partner to work with throughout this contract."Jackson praised OSU athletic director Mike Holder and his staff for the decision to put the 6A final in Chapman Stadium, much closer to the Jenks and Union fan bases."Technically, this is (OSU's) game," Jackson said. "But they realize that the weather put a snafu on things (causing a week delay). And they also realize, 'Why bring those two teams to Stillwater when Chapman is open and you can play it there?' We appreciate it and we know that Jenks and Union appreciated it as well."OSU will host the 4A and 5A championship games at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and the 3A, 2A and Class A finals the following weekend. Jackson said discussions are ongoing with the school about extending the contract.Frequent fliers: Jenks and Union had split eight previous meetings in the championship game, all since 1998.The ninth meeting extended a record for two teams meeting in a championship game. Ada and Clinton held the previous record with four championship meetings.Adding hardware: Jenks won its 14th gold ball in football and trails Ada (19) and Clinton (16) for the most by any Oklahoma school. Before Thursday, the Trojans were tied with Morrison with 13 state titles.The Trojans capped their fifth undefeated championship season, going 14-0 for the first time since the 2000 season. Jenks was 13-0 in 2001 when its annual regular-season game against Union was canceled because of Sept. 11.Jenks extended its winning streak over two seasons to 26, second-longest in school history. The defending championself storage won their final 12 games of 2012 after an 0-2 start.The Trojans won a school-record 39 straight games in 1999-2002.Allan Trimble claimed his 11th state title as head coach, all with the Trojans. He leads the state in that category. Gary Rose of Midwest City Carl Albert and Mike Lee of Clinton have won nine each.Back in action: Jenks receiver Austin Casillas made his first appearance since missing the last three games with a knee injury. He fielded the Redskins' first punt.Scoring surge: Union led Class 6A in 2013 with 612 points. The Redskins became the sixth team in school history to score 600 or more.The Redskins' 1998 runner-up team, led by QB Josh Blankenship and RB Danny Morris, set a school record with 656 points in 14 games. The next-highest totals were 629 (2010), 617 (2008), 609 (2002) and 601 (2005).Heady kids: Slade Nordic and Colton Penrod were among Bartlesville's delegation as the Bruins were honored as Class 6A academic champs for the fifth straight year."We stress academics as well as athletics here at Bartlesville," coach John McKee said.Nordic, a senior, led area receivers with 1,376 receiving yards in 2013. Penrod, a sophomore, was third among quarterbacks with 3,054 passing yards.Killing cancer: The OSSAA recognized state champions in the fourth year of its Win Win Week fundraising program for cancer awareness.Mounds was recognized as the Class 2A champion for the third consecutive year.
