Source: The Pueblo Chieftain, Colo.迷你倉Dec. 13--SkyWest Airlines, operating as United Express, will offer twice-daily commuter air service from Pueblo to Denver starting April 2, replacing current carrier Great Lakes airline, the Pueblo Memorial Airport Advisory Committee announced on Thursday.SkyWest will fly under the United Express banner and feature 30-passenger planes, larger than the 19-passenger planes operated by Great Lakes.Pueblo passengers also will gain access to United Airlines' global reservation network.United began accepting bookings Thursday. Two daily outbound flights to Denver are planned, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Two daily inbound flights also are planned.The change comes following the Department of Transportation's selection of Skywest to succeed Great Lakes under the federal government's Essential Air Service program that helps subsidize air travel to less urban areas.Skywest requested a slightly higher amount of subsidy than Great Lakes for the service but the Pueblo airport advisory group lobbied for Skywest given its plan to use a larger plane, which will bestaffed by a flight attendant; its ties to United and other factors.The group also hopes the new air service partnership will make it easier to attract larger planes and more flights in the future, if the market shows support, advisory group members said.Dave Cardinal, a Pueblo businessman and member of the airport advisory group, praised the work of Great Lakes over the years but said that community leaders made the case to federal officials that "if we are ever going to get out from the Essential Air Service program we need to have better equipment (including larger planes) and better scheduling."The price of a flight from Pueblo to Denver may add as little as $50 each way if booked as part of a longer United flight, based on United's website pricing for April. A regular flight between Pueblo and Denver flight costs about $150 each way, based on the pricing for early April.Each flight from Pueblo to Denver will be on board the 30-passenger Embraer EMB 120 aircraft. The cabin boasts more leg and head room than most other aircraft in its class, local officials said.Pueblo leaders praised Thursday's announcement in a series of statements also released Thursday moself storagening.Steve Nawrocki, president of the Pueblo City Council, said, "The United Express flights, operated by SkyWest, will provide our community with access to United Airlines' extensive network and are a great alternative to driving north to catch a plane."Mark Lovin, Pueblo Memorial Airport director of Aviation, said, "We are very excited United Airlines, through their partner SkyWest, has chosen to provide twice-daily service to the Pueblo Airport utilizing Embraer Brasilia aircraft. The high quality seamless service and access to United's system will be a distinct advantage to Pueblo and the traveling public."Ken Conyers, chairman of the Pueblo Airport Advisory Committee, said, "I am absolutely delighted that United will be providing Essential Air Service for all of Southeastern Colorado out of Pueblo Memorial Airport."Sandy Gutierrez, CEO of the Latino Chamber of Commerce, said, "It is exciting to see such great things happening at the Pueblo Airport. We rely heavily on airport services to help maintain quality travel options for Pueblo and Southern Colorado."Don Blehm, president of the Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society, said, "Our airport is vitally important to the Pueblo economy and, as has been noted in recent news articles, our aircraft museum is increasingly drawing national attention and tourists."Rod Slyhoff, president of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, said, "The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce is excited that United Express will begin serving our community in the spring of 2014."Cardinal said, "As a longtime supporter of the Pueblo Airport, I am very excited about the new United Express service.I truly believe the traveling public will use this service and that it will give us the opportunity to expand service in the future."Liane "Buffie" Mc-Fadyen, Pueblo County commissioner and Airport Advisory Board member, said, "A wellbalanced transportation system positively impacts our economic development.
