A 12-year-old boy was killed yesterday after he was hit by a car while running across the road to catch a bus to school in Ma On Shan.存倉 The driver, surnamed Ho, 46, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and released on bail. The boy, Wong Ho-fung, a Secondary One student at Ma On Shan St Joseph's Secondary School, was with his brother, 13, when they ran to cross Sai Sha Road near Sai Keng Village to catch bus No 229, which was already at the bus stop, at about 7.07am. The victim was believed to have been in front of his older brother when he was knocked down by the car, which was heading in the Sha Tin direction. The car dragged the victim for 30 meters before stopping, said Vincent Wong Kwok-yan, senior inspector of the New Territories South traffic unit. The brother, a Secondary Two student at the same school, was not injured. The driver was suspected to have not stepped on the brakes in time, Wong said. The front right side of the car was badly damaged. Sustaining serious head injuries, the boy was pulled儲存 from under the car by firefighters and unconscious when taken to Prince of Wales Hospital. A spokesman at St Joseph's school said Wong was the subject leader of Chinese history in his class and attended computer study groups. He often helped his teachers.
