Source: Mail Tribune, Medford, Ore.迷利倉Nov. 17--It wasn't as if Rainier dared Cascade Christian quarterback Seth Knox to throw the football on Saturday afternoon.Still, the visiting Class 3A football team definitely did make it inviting for the senior by stacking the box with defenders during quarterfinal action at U.S. Cellular Community Park.Whatever the setup, the 6-foot-3, 170-pound Knox proved he was equal to the task with a career effort through the air that included 353 yards passing and nine touchdowns in a 68-12 rout of the Columbians."That's a first," said a grinning Knox of his nine TDs. "It feels pretty awesome. It wasn't expected and I really give all the credit to my linemen because they gave me the time to throw it."Parked behind a steady wall created by Collin Badura, Trace Walker, Tristan Jones, TJ Alvarez and Levi Clark, Knox was able to carve up Rainier with pinpoint precision. He passed for three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters, added a seventh three minutes into the second half and tacked on two more early in the fourth quarter after being pressed back into action.Overall, Knox completed 19 of 24 passes and was only taken down once in the backfield when he mishandled a shotgun snap and was forced to fall on the ball. Knox connected with eight different receivers, with Cooper Clark and Cody Parker leading the way with four receptions apiece."They really wanted to put their guys in the box and try to challenge us and Seth responded," said Challengers head coach Jon Gettman. "He got the ball to everyone. I really firmly believe we've got eight kids that can go up and catch a ball and are playmakers with it so that's what's fun to see."Cascade Christian (10-2) will look for that fun to continue next Saturday when it squares off against Vale (10-1), a 27-25 winner over Harrisburg on Saturday, in the 3A state semifinals. The Challengers have advanced to the semis in every season since 2008, finishing runner-up a year ago.Time and location of the semifinal is still to be determined, but Gettman speculated that the matchup would take place at Summit High in Bend."It only gets tougher and only gets better from here," said Gettman. "Vale is a great team and it's going to be a battle wherever we play them."Rainier (7-4) was riding a six-game winning streak and came out of the gates in impressive fashion when senior Jordan Brittain took a direct snap out of a full-house backfield, quickly cut left and raced 75 yards on the second play from scrimmage for a touchdown. The Columbians failed on their two-point conversion but were thrilled to be up 6-0 only 48 seconds into the contest. That upbeat feeling, however, didn't last."That woke us up and made us all a little mad," said Knox of Rainier's quick strike. "Once that happened we just knew we had to step up and take it to them."Knox engineered a 54-yard drive on the Challengers' first possession, capping it with a 16-yard swing pass to senior David Sellers. Cody Parker's extra-point kick made it 7-6 and Cascade Christian never trailed again.Sellers pounced on a fumbled snap soon after to give the Challengers the ball back and they used the short field to produce a 13-6 lead when Clark came across the middle wide open on a drag route after attention went to Dalton Palmer in the seam. When the defense held, Knox went back to work on a mere 35-yard drive that was capped by an 11-yard dart to Dante Olson through heavy coverage. Stephen Joffer's two-point conversion pass to Sellers made it 21-6 with 2:15 still left in the first quarter.Knox then made it happen on the defensive end with an interception that halted a promising drive by Rainier that started from its own 20 but advanced down to the Challengers' 14. Sixty-seven seconds later, Knox hit Clark in stride on a slant and the 5-11 senior did the rest for a 33-yard touchdown. It 迷你倉as then that Knox said he felt like he might be in a pretty good rhythm."Toward the middle of the second quarter I felt like my passes were accurate and my receivers were catching all the balls that I was throwing," he said. "I got my confidence going and I just felt like I was in a groove."With the Challengers' defense stopping Rainier at every turn, Knox and company kept getting opportunities and kept firing on all cylinders.A great diving 33-yard catch by Tanner Park led to a 7-yard scoring toss to Olson, then Knox found Cody Parker for a 4-yard score after eluding pressure to make it 41-6 just before halftime."Seth is just playing unbelievable," Gettman said of the QB, who was 12-of-13 for 182 yards and six TDs at intermission. "It's pretty neat to see a kid like that who has flourished. He's come from us not being sure if he was going to be our quarterback to now he's the man and there is no question. That's what's exciting, just the growth that he's had as a football player."Knox's day appeared over after he hit a streaking Cody Parker for a 48-yard scoring strike three minutes into the second half, but backup quarterback Alec Furst took a big hit on his second series and Rainier's kickoff after a 45-yard TD pass from Wes Tripp to Brittain was downed at the 1-yard line."It was just a situation where we got it at the 1 and wanted to get out of there so he came back in," said Gettman. "After that we just decided to let him finish the game because Alec took a pretty good shot there."It's hard to imagine that a team scoring and making a great kickoff play wouldn't work in its favor but that's exactly what happened for Rainier. With Knox still behind center, he capped a 99-yard drive by flicking a screen pass to Joffer and watching the senior do the rest for a 71-yard TD behind great perimeter blocking.Knox added a 15-yard TD pass to Chase Wager on his team's next series to invoke a running clock with the Challengers now up 62-12 with 8:27 to play. For the game, Clark finished with four catches for 75 yards and two TDs, Cody Parker had four catches for 71 yards and two TDs and Olson had three catches for 27 yards and two TDs."I just have amazing receivers," he said. "They know how to run routes really well, they're really athletic, they have great hands and they just make big plays for me."Jake Brown's 103-yard interception return on the final play of the game capped a stellar defensive effort spearheaded by linebackers Olson and Palmer, who each had 13 tackles, and Sellers, who had six tackles. Palmer was especially active with four tackles for loss, including two sacks, as Rainier was limited to 301 yards overall."We can talk offense but defense is what's going to take us anywhere," said Gettman. "To me our defense is playing as well as it has and that's what's most exciting. What gives me the most comfort is we have a defense that we can rely upon and will get us out of some jams that we put ourselves into."Rainier 6 0 6 0 -- 12Cascade Christian 21 20 7 20 -- 68R -- Brittain 75 run (run failed)CC -- Sellers 16 pass from Knox (C.
