Source: Pioneer Press, St.迷你倉最平 Paul, Minn.Sept. 19--A St. Paul police officer was injured during a high-speed chase Wednesday night when his squad car struck a median, causing a metal road sign to slash through the open driver's side window, striking him in the face.The officer, who was not immediately identified, suffered a 1.5-inch cut just under his left eye, after the sign was slightly deflected by a deploying air bag. He was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.The stolen vehicle the officer was chasing escaped but was later found abandoned in Falcon Heights. That led to the arrest of the suspected driver.The chase began about 7 p.m. on Dale Street just north of Maryland Avenue, where the officer and his partner spotted a Nissan Murano that had been reported stolen in St. Cloud on Sept. 12. The officers followed the vehicle and called for backup, but the vehicle sped away before help could arrive.The officers chased the vehicle southbound on Chatsworth Street, where it turned west onto Front Avenue, reaching a迷你倉 estimated speed of 80 mph. By the time the pursuit reached Energy Park Drive, the stolen vehicle and the squad car had entered oncoming traffic lanes.In an effort to correct and stay in the right lane, the officer struck a median near Energy Lane, causing a road sign to partially fly into his open window.The officers called off the chase, but the stolen vehicle was recovered about 15 minutes later in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue in Falcon Heights.Material inside the vehicle led to one of the suspect's family members, who lived nearby. By 10 p.m., officers had arrested the suspect, Leroy Tossey, 45, at the Lamplighter Lounge, 160 W. Larpenteur Ave. Tossey was booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of auto theft and fleeing in a motor vehicle, both felonies.Tad Vezner can be reached at 651-228-5461.
