LOUIS --Opened in the 1950s as a trendy St. Louis motor lodge for cool cats, the hotel at 4630 Lindell Boulevard will soon have a new owner.Roberts Hotels CWE, a company owned by businessmen brothers Mike and Steve Roberts, said Thursday that its Comfort Inn in the Central West End neighborhood will be sold at auction.The brothers bought the hotel out of foreclosure in 2007. Two years and millions of dollars later, they re-opened it as the Hotel Indigo, a luxury boutique brand. Lien filings, suits and countersuits involving the Robertses and hotel contractors dogged the project even before the Indigo opened. In 2011, the hotel was rebranded as a Comfort Inn.As Roberts Hotels CWE puts it in its auction announcement, even as a budget Comfort Inn, the hotel "experienced a significant business reduction" as a result of the sour economy.No date is given for the auction. Roberts Hotels CWE says the sale will involve Pulaski Bank and other lenders."We are plea存倉e to be given the opportunity to work with the lender to resolve outstanding issues in the current depressed real estate climates," Mike Roberts says in a statement.Also in a statement, Pulaski's president, Tom Reeves, says the auction agreement "is a prime example of a cooperative effort mutually beneficial for the borrower and the banks."Pulaski sued the brothers in 2012 over a construction loan tied to the Comfort Inn. The suit alleged the Robertses defaulted on the loan and owed $6.9 million in principal, interest and other fees. Records show the suit remains pending in St. Louis Circuit Court.Whoever buys the 127-room Central West End hotel will get a place that back in the day was known as the Bel Air West.
